Victor Yalom, Founder of Psychotherapy.net, Dies at 66

It is with profound sadness that the mental health community mourns the loss of Victor Yalom, PhD, founder of Psychotherapy.net, who died by suicide on February 26, 2026. He was 66.

Victor Yalom dedicated more than three decades of his life to advancing psychotherapy education and expanding access to meaningful conversations about mental health. Through his work, he became a respected figure among therapists, educators, and students around the world.

As the founder of Psychotherapy.net, Victor created an influential platform devoted to training and professional development in psychotherapy. Over the course of 30 years, he produced more than 100 educational videos featuring leading voices in the field, helping generations of clinicians deepen their understanding and improve their practice.

Beyond his work in media and education, Victor maintained an active private psychotherapy practice in San Francisco. He was also widely known for conducting workshops in existential-humanistic and group therapy across the United States, Mexico, and China, and for leading consultation groups that supported therapists in their professional growth.

Victor was also recognized as the son of renowned psychiatrist and author Irvin D. Yalom, though he established his own lasting contribution to the field through decades of independent work and dedication to therapist education.

Colleagues and those who knew him describe Victor as someone deeply committed to the idea that mental health matters and that human connection can be a powerful force for healing.
