Heavy Police Response Shuts Down I-80 West Near Netcong Following Reported Bank Robbery Investigation

A large police operation shut down a section of Interstate 80 westbound near the Netcong State Police station in Morris County, New Jersey, following a reported bank robbery investigation that ended with two suspects taken into custody.

According to initial information from law enforcement sources, authorities linked the police action to a reported robbery at a bank in Boonton earlier in the day.

Multiple agencies responded to the area along Route 80, where officers stopped and searched a vehicle believed to be connected to the investigation.

“I saw police units flying down the highway, and then traffic suddenly backed up. A short time later, officers had surrounded a vehicle,” the witness recounted.

Another person travelling through the area said numerous officers appeared to be focused on a vehicle pulled to the side of the roadway.

“There were police everywhere. They had the westbound side slowed, and officers were searching through a vehicle while people were trying to figure out what happened,” the witness said.

Additional witnesses reported seeing investigators inspecting the vehicle and remaining on scene after the suspects had reportedly been detained.

Law enforcement sources indicated that two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the reported robbery. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved or confirmed additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the arrests.

Officials have also not announced whether any weapons were recovered or whether anyone was injured during the incident.

The westbound closure created delays across the corridor as officers secured the scene and continued their investigation.

Authorities are expected to release more information as the investigation develops.
