As a result of the ongoing incident, Rawtenstall Market was closed, and members of the public were urged to stay away from the area.

In a statement issued on Friday evening, Rossendale Borough Council said:

“Due to an incident near Rawtenstall Market, the market has been closed while emergency services respond.

“Lancashire Police are dealing with the incident, and we kindly ask people to avoid the area until further notice. The market should reopen tomorrow at the usual time. Thank you for understanding.”

Members of the public are being advised to avoid the town centre until the cordon is lifted and emergency operations are complete.
